Now it’s time for you to identify your own automatic thoughts about exercise, and then to determine whether they’re facts or assumptions. To help you do this, take a moment to imagine that you’re just about to do some sort of physical activity. For example, maybe you’re trying to think of what exercise you could do this week. Stop right there and notice what’s going through your mind. You may want to use the same helpful questions to identify your automatic thoughts about exercise:

What went through my mind just as I thought about exercising?

What do these thoughts about exercise mean about me?

What do these thoughts mean about me in the big picture (for my life and my future)?

What do I fear might happen if these thoughts are true?

What’s the worst thing that could happen if these thoughts are true?

What do these thoughts suggest in terms of what other people might think or feel about me?

What do these thoughts mean about other people in general?
